A Couple of Days Ago …

My bro-in-law Bob and I did an early morning trip to nearby Wekiwa State Park a couple of days ago to try to spot some wading birds, but as luck would have it, there were none to be seen around Sand Lake, which we were assured is the spot that “all the birders go to”.  After striking out at Sand Lake, we walked down the main hiking trail for a while, spotting a couple of bucks and a couple of turkeys in the scrub along side the road/trail.  I then spotted this saw palmetto just off the trail, the varigated coloring catching my eye.  I did a couple of “straight shots”, but then began to experiment with some longer hand-held shutter speeds along with zooming the lens during exposure, but most really didn’t work out very well – except maybe for this one.  I processed it very simply by adding a little contrast, saturation and structure.  I hope you enjoy it.

Morning Expedition – (Part 2)

The following shot is my artsy-fartsy effort for the day.  The sun was streaming into the swamp from my right, illuminating the trunks of the trees rising out of the swamp water.  I decided to take advantage of the light and textures by shooting the scene as an abstract vertical blur.  I hope you enjoy it.
